Today is our WEDDING anniversary! Not to be confused with our marriage anniversary which is in April. We had our first date six years ago today and our wedding five years ago today. We've accomplished a lot in the past six years. We have two beautiful little girls. Kevin finished his Bachelor's degree, and we are two claseses away from our Master's degree. Kevin has found a job that he loves, while I continue to have a love/hate relationship with mine. We bought a house and have turned it into our home. It's been good.
Today we plan to celebrate simply. Kevin is finishing my patio that he started earlier this summer. It's nothing fancy, just the large grey bricks laid out, but it will do. We didn't want to build anything permanent as we plan to build a family room on to the back of the house in a few years. This patio will last us until then. Later this afternoon, we are going to Jeff City to get a fire pit bowl thing for the patio and some steaks to put on the grill. We will cook dinner together, eat, and then enjoy a bottle of wine on the patio with a small fire going. Sounds like Heaven to me.
I do want to say, that marriage is work, HARD work. It's a relationship and all relationships take time to nurture and build. It's easy to blame your husband or wife when things aren't going right. Conflict can build pretty fast. Kevin and I have been through all of the normal up's and down's that come in the first years of marriage. That said, I am proud of where we are. I feel closer to him now then ever before. We have learned to communicate openly and with trust. That is pretty good considering we eloped at the spur of the moment after having only known one another for seven months. I want our marriage to be a success story!
